About

Stefan is a Cape Town based director, production designer, set and props designer, costume designer, lighting designer, writer and translator working in Theatre. He obtained his BDram degree from Stellenbosch University in 2013. 

Stefan has been doing theatre work since 2011, making his professional debut in 2013 as lighting designer for Nicola Hannekom’s Land van Skedels, and most recently designed the set and props for the Nagtegaal prize winning script Huis van Sand by Diane du Toit Albertse and Alice for Cape Town City Ballet. Designing opera and ballet has been further highlights in his theatre career. 

In Film and Television he works as director, writer, production designer, art director, set decorator, set dresser, props master and buyer. Stefan has been working in film since 2014 starting with Johnny is nie Dood nie, and most recently How to make a Killing.

In 2019 Stefan’s short film OEDIPUS: Die Musical – ’n Dokumentêr won multiple awards at the Silwerskermfees including best short film, director, actor, hair & make up and editing. 


Film and television highlights include How to make a Killing, Niggies, Die Spreeus, 4 Mure and RAGE. 

Working with Jaco Bouwer on multiple series and films have taught him directing skills through observation of his directing style. Further working with Rocco Pool has impacted Stefan’s style of design immeasurably. 

Stefan looks forward to continued work in the theatre, film, television and commercial fields.
